1925 Akron, Ohio |
This photo, taken around 1925, shows the
northeast corner of S High St and Center St (now University Ave). The
Akron Armory is at the far left (demolished in 1982 and replaced by the
Ocasek State Office Building). Dominating the center of the photo is
the Summit County Courthouse (1908) with the annex (1922) behind it.
The castle-like building at the far right was the Summit County Jail.
This building and the house was replaced by the Stubbs Justice Center in
the early-1960s, which housed the jail until 1990. The houses in the
left foreground were replaced by the Summit County parking deck. The
walled off block in the foreground became the Polsky Department Store
(1930-1978). * photo and description from www.waymarking.com
